Developing our centres

Our investment in our UK assets creates places where people and brands want to be, revitalises city centres and brings economic benefits to communities

We own a great portfolio of some of the best?destinations to shop and spend time.?But we never stand still.

As property developers, we continue investing to curate places where people want to be and customers need to be. We are also introducing mixed-use spaces, including residential, offices and hotels to create?thriving communities.??

We deliver theatre and word class service to maximise footfall and dwell time. Creating places that?visitors want to return to?helps our customers flourish, brings new life to city centres, creates new dynamic experiences as well as local economic benefits.

It's win-win. For visitors, customers, communities and our own business.

Curating spaces where visitors want to be

We never stop challenging ourselves to create the very best environments for?visitors to enjoy and where?brands can flourish.

In 2018 we opened our?400,000 sq ft development at intu Watford which has, according to CACI, elevated the town to a top 20 retail destination alongside Edinburgh and Bristol. The growing appeal of the centre?is increasing its?its potential catchment population from 1.6 million to 2.8 million, making it the number one choice for even more shoppers.

In 2019 we launched intu Lakeside's leisure development complete with a Nickeldoeon themed family entertainment centre and three other major leisure anchors.?

This year, the transformation of Barton Square at intu Trafford Centre completes, with this area of the centre gaining a new glass-domed roof, fully redesigned interior and more shopping and leisure space.

The transformation of ?intu Broadmarsh is?also?well underway and over in Spain, a new type of regional centre, 'the retail resort' will take shape at intu Costa del Sol.

Placemaking in action

We are always looking to make our centres even better places to visit, with new events, design enhancements and brands

There are certain qualities people expect from an intu centre. Some you can see; great design and architecture, and the use of the?best quality materials. Some you can’t; excellent technical and technological infrastructure and reduced operating costs and environmental impact through energy efficient lighting and ventilation.

Then there are the things that go into making a compelling shopping experience; the retailers and restauranteurs that we attract and?the shopping and leisure?experiences?we can offer. It's about?having?the right offer in the right places and that create shopping centres which entice?visitors to come and stay.

When we develop our centres we take all these things into account and create award-winning, crowd-pulling, in-demand shopping and leisure?destinations.

?

We create an environment for brands to showcase their products and provide an experience for visitors that extends beyond just a purchase.

Clock this!

Nottingham’s favourite meeting point, the water-powered clock designed by local boy Rowland Emett, was a bit in the way when we drew up our plans to renovate intu Victoria Centre, and was in something of a sorry state anyway. So we took it apart, repaired it and put it back where it belongs, in the hearts of local shoppers.
